Labady is a communal section of Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite, Haiti. It is the commune's third section.
History[]
Plassac is a savanah and a plantation located in the Artibonite Plain, northeast of the Labadie habitation, and south of the Chemin des Grand Cahos no. 1. The Morne de Plassac of the Cahos Chain ends up fading into the plain.
- The freedmen of the place gathered in Plassac in 1789 in number of 80, and sent to ask for the release of the only one among them who had refused to take the oath to white. Their deputies were imprisoned. They dispersed Colonel Campan and a planter, Borel nonetheless, marched against them with 1,200 men and artillery to exterminate them. They were massacred.
- Plassac was the place of the first armed gathering of colored people from Artibonite and Verrettes against the French. This gathering took place on February 24, 1790. The bold discontents invited the other citizens of their class to invite them to acquire by force, equality rights that were so unfairly denied to them. But the first assembly, which had not been agreed in advance with the other quarters, was promptly dissolved.
- In March 1802, Rochambeau marched against Toussaint from the Pont de l'Estére to the Morne-å-Pipe in the Cahos, near Créte å Pierrot. At Morne-å-Pipe, he collected large number of whites who had taken refuge there.
- On March 11, 1802, Pétion, after having made the entire Boudet division cross the Artibonite river, opposite the Labadie plantation, arrived at Plassac. There was a powder deposit. From there Boudet's division went to the Lafortune savannah to seize a sum of money that Toussaint had hidden there.
In August, Larose in insurrection against the French in the heights of Arcahaie, after having abandoned his Chantelotte, took refuge in Plassac beyond Petite Riviere, at the end of the Artibonite plain. The general Dessalines, left from Petite River, went to Plassac. As soon as Larose saw him he reached the top of a small hill with his people.
Dessalines stopped at the foot of the eminence and ordered him to deliver all his soldiers of the 8th to him. Larose replied that he would not hand over his soldiers to a traitor, an assassin who would have them slaughtered by the French. 'Hand over your soldiers to me,' replied Dessalines, 'as for you, you can go where you want.' As Larose continued to reproach him. he ordered the 4th colonial power to launch its pursuit without making use of its weapons. In less than an hour, Larose found himself alone. He reached a small mountain where he took refuge in Redillon. Dessalines then rushed to the heights of Arcahaie in pursuit of Charles Bélair.
